Examination of the use of CAM in Central Appalachia

A growing number of people in the United States and worldwide use complementary and alternative medicine. CAM is defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine as therapies not considered to be part of conventional medicine as practiced by medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy and allied health professionals. CAM usage has been reported to differ by region, but little is known about the usage among the Appalachian population. The aim of the following study is to evaluate the usage of CAM among adults in Central Appalachia.
