Although several studies show the effect of osteopathic manipulative treatment on neonatal care, standardized osteopathic evaluation and treatment procedures for newborns recovering in neonatal intensive care units still do not exist. In this article, Italian researchers suggest a protocol on the osteopathic approach to treating hospitalized newborns (NE-O model). The model was adopted in 2006, and results from research showed the effectiveness of this model in reducing preterms’ length of stay and hospital costs.
